Grodno to host Belarusian-Lithuanian Regional Cooperation Forum 29-30 May

GRODNO, 8 May (BelTA) – The third Belarusian-Lithuanian Regional Cooperation Forum will open in Grodno on 29 May, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania.

This is the third time the two countries will hold the forum. The aim is to bolster the comprehensive cooperation between the regions of Belarus and Lithuania. It will be attended by delegations of Lithuanian regions, including the cities of Alytus, Visaginas, Birstonas, Druskininkai and Marijampole, and also Alytus and Kaisiadorys Districts. The Belarusian side will be represented by delegations of the Grodno, Ostrovets, Oshmiany, Ivie districts and the cities of Grodno and Lida.

This time the event will be held within the framework of the Year of Hospitality declared in Belarus. Therefore the main focus will be on the cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism, said the embassy. In addition, the participants will discuss the Belarus-Lithuania cooperation in trade, economic and investment areas.

The forum has been organized by the Grodno oblast and city authorities, the administration of the Grodnoinvest Free Economic Zone, the Grodno Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Belarusian Embassy in Lithuania. On behalf of Lithuania the organizers are the municipalities participating in the forum, the Association of Local Authorities of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus.

Belarus and Lithuania conduct intensive work to promote twin-town relations between administrative-territorial units of the two countries. The regions and cities of the two countries have signed nearly 70 agreements on cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian areas. Every year the cooperation between the regions adds about 30% to the trade between Belarus and Lithuania.
