Belarusian Grodno twinned with Russian Tambov

GRODNO, 13 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian city of Grodno has been twinned with the Russian city of Tambov, representatives of the Ideology, Culture, and Youth Affairs Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee told BelTA.

The twinning agreement was signed during the visit of a delegation of the Grodno city administration to Tambov last week. Grodno Mayor Mechislav Goi and Tambov Mayor Alexei Kondratyev also signed the protocol on implementing the agreement in 2015-2016.

The sides believe the establishment of the twinning relations to be the foundation for fruitful cooperation in trade, economic, and humanitarian spheres. The document envisages the development of trade and economic interaction, cooperation in the sphere of utilities, interaction in matters of science and technology as well as tourism, physical training, education, healthcare, and culture.

In Tambov the Grodno delegation met with top officials of the local administration. The Belarusian delegation was made familiar with the potential of the Russian oblast capital and held a presentation of its own business potential in the Tambov Oblast Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A Tambov city delegation is expected to visit Grodno in May 2015. The sides intend to prepare concrete proposals for cooperation by that time.

Grodno has been twinned with 12 cities or city districts, including six in the Russian Federation. Cooperation agreements have been signed with four cities, including Russian Vologda. Grodno is also a member of the international assembly of capitals and major cities. Grodno also maintains friendly ties with Russia's Kaliningrad, the union of Baltic cities, and the Polish city of Suwalki.
