Nine new Lada cars have been added to the vehicle fleet of Grodno clinics. Some of the city budget's surplus was spent on buying the cars, BelTA learned from Grodno Mayor Mechislav Goi.
The festive ceremony to hand over the cars took place in Lenina Square in Grodno on 27 December. Before leaving the place the cars danced in a circle around the city's key New Year tree.
The mayor said: "It is important to make one's dream come true on New Year's Eve. Grodno clinics, which also cater to Grodno District, have about 80 vehicles. Some of them have known better days and require replacement. We've taken into account wishes of the medics and bought the new cars." He stressed that the city's real sector has been working steadily for the last few years, which is why the city administration could afford buying the cars.
The new cars will be used to answer calls for emergency medical aid, deliver doctors and their aides to patients, collect biological samples for tests, and take care of bedridden patients. Six more cars have already been bought this year.
The vehicle fleet in parts of Grodno Oblast was renewed on New Year's Eve as well. Two ambulance cars were handed over to the Mosty District Central Hospital on 24 December. The Lida District Central Hospital received six cars and one ambulance car.
